Eivar Moya was born in Valledupar, Cesar, Colombia, in 1970. From 1987 until 1991 he attended the Maestro en Artes Plasticas course at the Escuela de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts School) at the Universidad del Atlantico in Barranquilla.
Fostering a technique reminiscent of the Renaissance Masters, Moya’s works are powerful and dynamic interpretations of the human form. His innate drawing skill , which was honed in art school, resulted in an understanding and expression of the human anatomy that is rarely found today. His line is vibrant, his painting is passionate. This combination results in images that exhibit an explicit understanding of human anatomy and a “respect for art which has been his company since his school years.” Moya’s subjects vary from “simple” studies of the human form, to exciting mystical themes, to figures juxtaposed with classical masterpieces.
For me, the true motor behind my work, is the human being, as it allows me, through its force, the line and gesture, to represent an immense array of possibilities, such as eroticism, calm, violence, wildness, hate and many other thing. It is like a great actor that could represent all the roles that they are given in a lifetime, and because of that the human being, is what impulses my work, especially as everything placed around it is anecdotal, just something that accompanies the continuity of the being itself, which is why I thank God, for everything, in particular when I remember what the poet said “we are human and a worse thing we can never be”.
